In Southeast Texas, people have a lot of different opinions about the holiday.
If you choose to participate, just help your kids stay safe while they enjoy the evening.
It is the only holiday we celebrate by sending our children out into the dark dressed in a way where it could be difficult to quickly recognize them and to keep track of them.
Here are some ideas to help you keep your kids safe and to let them have fun at the same time.
Southeast Texas Trunk or Treats: There are typically dozens to choose from across the Golden Triangle hosted by groups who work hard to keep kids safe including: Cornerstone Baptist Church in Kountze, the Beaumont Police Department, Crestwood Baptist Church in Lumberton, Wesley United Methodist Church in Beaumont, First Baptist Church Silsbee, Journey Community Church in Lumberton, Lumberton ISD. For more locations, click here for the Southeast Texas Family Magazine Facebook Page and here for the SETX Church Guide Facebook Page.
Host a Halloween Event at Your Home: You can choose a party with events like bobbing for apples and decorating jack o’ lanterns or a simple get together where your guests pass out candy to your neighbors. Either way, you can set the tone and have some control over the evening.
Set a Tradition of Wearing a Family Costume: If you begin a tradition of a themed costume for your family when the kids are young, they are more likely to be open to continuing to spend the holiday together, keeping them close where you can keep an eye on them. If you pick a unique theme, it will be that much easier to spot your kids in the crowd!
